This game promises to be a good one on Sunday, now that the
Redskins are 19 days and 2 wins removed from the abysmal season opening game
versus the Giants. The Redskins have shown exactly the promise alluded to in my
previous post and are progressing quite well on both sides of the ball. Almost
three weeks ago a game against Dallas would seem akin to throwing Daniel in the
Lions Den (with quite unfavorable consequences). However, the offense is
clicking now and the playbook has opened up. Despite a banged up receiving
corps, quarterback Jason Campbell has found seven different receivers in each
of the two past ...

Redskins fans, myself included, witnessed what many consider
an overall poor performance by the team last night in the NFL season opener,
held at the Meadowlands, vs. the NY Giants, in which the Skins lost 16–7. How
bad was it? Not too bad folks and here’s why.
We
saw an inept offense that still, obviously, is learning
the ropes of a West Coast Offense. Therefore one couldn’t really expect
the
timing and rhythm to be perfect. A few more first downs and extended
drives
would have been nice, but in the end we saw a little of that and most
importantly the offense did not turn over the ball (save ...

Late last week, all rumors pointed to retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre making a return to play the '08 season, but not as a Packer. He asked for his release from the team that employed him for 17 years. At this, the talking heads in the sports world started predicting which teams would seek and land the veteran QB, from Chicago to Minnesota to Tampa Bay. And of course Washington. I received a phone call from my off the clock NFL reporter and best friend on Saturday afternoon that Favre was going to be picked up by the Redskins. Upon ...

Note to Gilbert Arenas: Please don't take the money and run. Instead, take the money and stay. News of the Washington Wizards' All-Star guard has been swirling around his decision to pursue free agency and all that it has to offer in the off-season: plane trips, wining and dining, limos, entertainment, contract offers--all efforts to woo free agent sports stars from one city to another. Late last night, news broke that the Wizards offered Arenas a maximum contract--a.k.a. BIG MONEY--to stay in Washington; to the tune of $127M over 6 years. Earlier in the day, the Golden State Warriors reportedly ...

Let's start swapping moments in personal sports history. You know,
favorite games attended, amazing highlights you saw in person, crazy
stories from tailgating. Whatever comes to mind that is of any
interest. In the summer lull between NHL, NBA finals and
football season, this could make for some good filler. I know, I
know--there's still baseball, MLS, WNBA, and a bevy of random events to
talk shop about, but let's admit that it's still early in the season
for the Nats, United, and Mystics. So in the meantime, let's open up
the forum. I'll start with a rather revealing tale. September
2003, FedEx Field, Landover. The Washington Redskins were ...

Well, I hoped I grabbed you with the headline. To be honest, it's not
really a fair headline--more hype than anything. But I do have a
legitimate answer to offer. Why will the Washington Redskins win Super
Bowl XLIII to be held in Tampa, Fla. at Raymond James Stadium? Simple.
It's May and they have as good a shot right now as any team in the
league. (That and every year the New York Giants won the Super Bowl,
the Redskins won the following year. Yes, it's true--look it up.) But
enough fodder. Now to get to the real point I'd like to make.
All across America and ...

This a bit overdue, but I just wanted to say "See ya next year Wizards. Thanks for another season of mediocrity and first round expelling by the Cavaliers."The Wizard bowed out of the playoffs this past Friday. With their season on the line and the home crowd at Verizon Center behind them, the Wizards actually played woeful basketball, losing by almost 30 points, 105-88. Way to go boys. Thanks for nothing. Guess it took me a few days to digest. Or maybe they simply became an afterthought. I mean, honestly, who wants to give a team second thought after ...

Was incredibly pleasing to see the Wizards toughen up last night and thoroughly whip the Cavaliers by 36 points (108-72). It was exactly the type of win the Wiz had to produce to regain confidence in themselves and among their fans in this playoff series. Personally, I was hoping to see them produce a dominating win, in which there would be zero drama and no doubt as who would end up winning. I thought it would be a pipe dream though, given how they fared in the first two games of the series. But alas, there was no last second ...

C'est la Vie. And that's the way the cookie crumbles. Goodbye Caps, you had one heck of a run. By now, we all know that the Caps amazing run into the postseason ended late Tuesday night at the hands of a determined Flyers team, in overtime nonetheless. Their season was nothing short of amazing. To go from dead last in November to winning their division title in early April, the Caps did more than win a few games, they gave fans a glimpse of a very, very bright future. Cheers, kudos all around, thank you Caps! The Wizards return home ...

So much for my 99-94 (or thereabouts) Wizards over the Cavaliers
prediction yesterday. The Wiz got thumped and hard. They really put up
a lame-duck performance against the Cavs. I'm surprised and upset. You
just can't do that in the playoffs. It was weak and pathetic and really
harks back to the typical old Wizards of the past 3 seasons, who can
hang with the big boys on a good night and surprisingly down the best
competition only to fall flat in games that really count. We'll see if
the D.C. home crowd can get them back into a groove in Game 3.Meanwhile,
the Caps continued the ...

4/19/2008: If you're a basketball fan, ice hockey fan, or both, Saturday was a great day to kick back and watch the two sports on your HD big screen. The Wizards kicked off a fab day of sports at 12:30 p.m., while the Capitals started a touch later at 1 p.m. In between my own bouts between a foot-high lawn versus the lawnmower, I was able to catch most all of both games (Wizards vs. Cavs and Caps vs. Flyers). Two playoff contests that had intense rivalry and some Sports Center-worthy highlights (did anyone see Lebron dunk that wicked alley-oop ...

Philadelphia, Pa., 4/17/08: The Capitals blew it last night at the Wachovia Center in Philly. They had the Philly Flyers on the ropes, so to speak, all night long, out hustling them to loose pucks, outhitting them 38-29, playing an excellent dump and chase offense, which created many opportunities in front of Flyers goaltender Martin Biron. It was a game the Caps should have won--needed to have won. Leading 3-2 midway through the 3rd period, the Caps were scrambling in their own zone with the Flyers swirling around the net. Then bam! Danny Briere takes a nifty pass from Mike ...
