The Party of the Year
“New Year’s Annapolis: Sailing into 2009” invites revelers of all ages Downtown
December 31st and the stroke of midnight hold a special place in the hearts of Annapolitans as the city’s streets and many venues surrounding the City Dock area are transformed into a delightful, family friendly event featuring street performers, live music, theatrics, dancing, and children’s entertainment. Previously known as “First Night Annapolis,” this year’s event is under new management and now celebrated as “New Year’s Annapolis: Sailing into 2009.” Two sets of fireworks (at 7:30 p.m. for early birds, 12 a.m. for nighthawks) will highlight the event, along with renowned children’s music act, Milkshake, and many rockin’ acts for adults alike. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased at newyearsannapolis.org. After December 29th, tickets will cost $15.

Dream a Little Dream

Annual favorite, The Nutcracker, returns to Annapolis’ Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts
The fairytale, holiday tradition that adults fondly enjoy and children fall in love with, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcraker, will be performed by the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, December 13–14 and 20–21, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. (410) 280-5640 or marylandhall.org.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes comes to Baltimore
New York, New York comes to Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena this December 2–7 when the fabulous and world famous Rockettes bring their Radio City Christmas Spectacular show. Winter Solstice Celebration

Live music and performance painting coalesce in a unique event
World-renowned American post-modern artist Alex Grey teams up with locally-renowned band Telesma this December’s Winter Solstice, on 12/20, at Sonar in Baltimore for a rare evening of Grey’s live visionary painting to Telesma’s tribal rock. The performance benefits Grey’s Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, a non-profit institution that supports visionary culture. Elite local college basketball teams square off in this annual classic
On December 7th, the Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team will be joined by the Virginia Tech Hokies, Navy Midshipmen, and George Washington Colonials at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. for the 14th Annual BB&T Classic. Hear Ye, Hear Ye
Annapolis’ 300th Anniversary closes with a special public reading
2008 has been a special year for the City of Annapolis. Chartered as a city in 1708 by Queen Anne of Great Britain, Annapolis has enjoyed a multitude of events over the past 12 months celebrating its 300th birthday year12/3. The final celebration of this year-long anniversary takes place on December 3 at the State House as descendants of original historic families join dignitaries and the public for a family friendly evening event of which the reading of the proclamation is at its center.
