January Highlights
A Treasured Event

It is the event of the year for local antique buffs—the 39th Annual Historic Annapolis Antiques Show will take place January 16–18 at the Medford National Guard Armory in Annapolis. Thirty-two sought-after antique dealers from across the nation and Europe showcase fine antiquities, representing almost three centuries of culture. This year, the focus is European and American pieces, from furniture to artwork, with Chinese influence. In the mid-1700s, strong influence of the exotic art and architecture of China was sweeping through Britain and France in what became known as the “Chinoiserie” movement (think flowers, birds, dragons). Friday hours are 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday 11 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday noon–5 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door or $12 when purchased online at Annapolis.org or ArmacostAntiquesShows.com. The Curator’s Walk, in which you can learn about the show from an expert, is on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with tickets priced at $25 (includes admission to the regular show). In addition, there is special preview party on January 15, from which all proceeds benefit the Historic Annapolis Foundation. Call (410) 267-7619 or (800) 603-4020 for more information.
