A Little Bit Country
Third-generation country legend plays the Avalon

Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter (prior to her marriage to Johnny Cash) and granddaughter of Maybelle Carter, plays the Avalon Theatre this month, bringing the hits from her thirty-year, twelve-album career to the Eastern Shore. The author of three top-five hits on the Billboard “Hot Country Songs” chart comes to Easton on January 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25. (410) 822-7299 or avalontheatre.com.



Symphonic Sounds
BSO brings classical masterpieces to Wye Mills

Stephen Hough, a widely regarded virtuoso pianist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills in the first installment of this year’s “Baltimore Symphony on the Eastern Shore.” The program closes with Shostakovich’s Eighth Symphony. Here Come the Brides-to-be
Bridal showcases display what’s new this wedding season

January is bridal-show month with three such events taking place on the Shore between now and February. January 4 sees the eighth annual Waterfront Bridal Show (pictured) unite vendors from both shores at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville while the Delmarva Bridal Showcase takes over the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury. The following week, St. Michaels welcomes the 2009 Eastern Shore Bridal Extravaganza at the Harbourtowne Golf Resort and Conference Center. An Angler’s Paradise
Fishing industry descends on O.C. for annual trade expo

The latest in boats, engines, equipment, and up-to-date information is on display at the 35th Annual East Coast Commercial Fishermen’s & Aquaculture Trade Exposition from January 23–25 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City. Charter boat captains, aquaculturists, and all degrees of fishermen convene to learn everything from angling trends to developments in oyster recovery efforts during both seminars and displays. An-tique-napolis
Annual antique show examines lasting influence of Chinese art

Nationally-recognized and benefiting the Historic Annapolis Foundation, the 39th Annual Historic Annapolis Antique Show highlights the influence of the mid-1700s trend known as the “Chinoiserie” movement, when exotic art and architecture of China swept through Britain and France, making a lasting declaration on the craft. This unique show runs from January 16–18 in the Medford National Guard Armory in Annapolis. Tickets are $15 at the door and $12 in advance. (410) 267-8146.
