Avalon performance raises spirit of live radio broadcasts

Old-time radio emerges from the technological hinterlands in this revival of the Golden Age of Radio at the Avalon Theatre in Easton on February 21. Like the live radio broadcasts of yesterday, this high-energy performance touches on each area of entertainment, leading its audience seamlessly between laughter and song. Tickets are $30. Muskrat Love
Beauty pageant, muskrat skinning highlight 64th annual event

Celebrating the watermen, trappers, sportsmen, and wildlife that define Dorchester County, this two-day event runs from February 27–28 at South Dorchester Pre K-8 School in Golden Hill. Friday evening includes the Miss Dorchester pageant as well as the semi-finals of the Senior World Champion Muskrat Skinning competition. Fight Night
Hometown hero returns to Salisbury for ESPN broadcast

Fernando “Warrior of the Cross” Guerrero, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Salisbury, returns to the Wicomico Civic Center on February 6 as part of ESPN’s long-running program “Friday Night Fights.” Guerrero (12-0-0) takes the ring against a to-be-determined opponent in the evening’s co-main event. Including six other bouts, the card’s other co-main event is a NABF Light Heavyweight Title Fight between Yusef Mack and Chris Henry. Tickets range from $15–125. Snare a Piece of Black History
Black marching band tradition takes the Meyerhoff stage

An all-star cast of performers from historically black colleges and universities combines the sounds of favorites like Earth, Wind and Fire with those of contemporary hip-hop in rhythmic drumline tradition during DRUMline Live, on February 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. Intricate choreography, precise percussion and brass arrangements, and athletic step and dance accompaniments have made drumlines a favorite of halftime shows at historically black universities for years.
