Return to Groove City
Jazz and blues fest wakens dormant Cambridge nickname.
Now in its fifth year, Cambridge’s Groove City Jazz & Blues Festival continues to book an impressive bill of performers for what’s becoming one of the Shore’s most anticipated spring events. This year’s headliners: Cyrus Chestnut, “the best jazz pianist of his generation,” according to Time; Deanna Bogart, subject of this month’s “
Out and About” in the Annapolis edition of What's Up? on pages 19 - 20; and Junkyard Saints, winner of the 2006 Washington Area Music Awards’ Wammie for “Artist of the Year.” A kickoff bash with Jimmy Cole is at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at Jimmie & Sook’s Raw Bar and Grill. The festival begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, with performances throughout the day. A $10 donation is requested from adults on Saturday. 410-228-0020 or
