Rock Hall’s Red Glare

Waterfront town hosts Shore’s preeminent July 4th party

Recognizing the birth of the nation is a weekend-long affair in Rock Hall. The weekend’s focal point is a parade of decorated boats down Main Street to the town’s civic center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. Food, music, games, and contests fill out Saturday, and the town’s Watermen’s Day celebration begins on Sunday at noon. Watermen, blue crabs jostle for top billing at Taste of Cambridge

Cambridge’s favorite summertime festival returns on July 11 from 5–9 p.m. with contests in crabpicking, watermelon eating, hula hooping, and more, along with live music in historic downtown Cambridge. Celebrate Bay traditions at CBMM’s Chesapeake Folk Festival

Chester River Runoff, the Raging Unstoppables, New Gospelites, and the Zionaires provide a soundtrack to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s (CBMM) Chesapeake Folk Festival on July 25 from 10 a.m.–6 p.m., a party that also features food vendors, boat rides, and maritime demonstrations. Art Attack

Nation’s largest free public arts festival proclaims year 28 its best yet

Artscape 2009 floods Mount Royal Avenue and surrounding Baltimore streets with over 350,000 attendees enjoying over 150 artists, fashion designers, craftspeople, and varied visual art exhibits from July 17–19. Three outdoor stages feature live music all weekend including headliners Dionne Warwick, CAKE, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Basshound, and Robin Thicke.
