Colonial Players invites you to an Open House Celebration of the Season with hot cider and cookies as well as choral music by the Chesapeake Academy Chorus and the All Children's Chorus of Annapolis. Meet cast members and the director and author of “The Christmas Doll,” the family musical that Colonial Players will be presenting December 3-13. Enjoy a preview of some songs from the show that tells the story of Lucy and Glory, two orphans who are struggling to stay alive in London after the plague took their parents. The girls meet the charming street scamp, Nick Button, after they escape from a workhouse. Through a twist of fate, they meet a doll-maker who ends up saving all of them.

Driving through “Lights on the Bay” at Sandy Point State Park has become a tradition for many families for the past decade. The Lights on the Bay display is a scenic drive along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay with more than 60 spectacular animated and stationary displays illuminating the roadway.

Before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner, hundreds of people will lace up their sneakers for Camp Letts’ 10th annual 5K & 10K Run/Walk Turkey Chase on November 27, 2009. The charity event, held to raise money for YMCA’s Building Bridges scholarship program, is in need of sponsors and donations in order to surpass this year’s goal of $150,000 in scholarship funds for underprivileged youth. The Turkey Chase will kick off at 7:30 AM on Thanksgiving morning with a mascot race, pony rides, face painting, balloons, and a continental breakfast. The race takes participants around the grounds of Camp Letts and winds through the scenic trails of the Smithsonian Preserve, located next to the camp. All participants will receive a long-sleeved t-shirt and a variety of prizes.

Historic Annapolis Foundation and Long & Foster Real Estate in Eastport are teaming up to celebrate the holiday season with the 2009 Gingerbread Parade of Homes Gingerbread House Competition. The entire community – kids, youth groups, families, adults, architects, designers and professional chefs are all invited to create one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses. The contest will feature four categories, child, family/group, adult non-professional and professional. Gingerbread houses will be displayed at businesses throughout the Annapolis Historic District from December 3-19. Visitors can pick up a map and cast their ballots for their favorite masterpiece at HistoryQuest, 99 Main Street in downtown Annapolis. Celebrity judges will award winners in the professional category on Saturday, December 5.

The People’s Choice awards will be announced at a reception on Saturday, December 19. Historic Annapolis Foundation president John Guild said, “The gingerbread house competition is a fun and unique way of promoting Historic Annapolis Foundation’s mission of preserving the architecture of Annapolis. It is our hope that the entrants will take their inspiration from the many architectural styles located throughout the city.” In addition to the competition, Historic Annapolis Foundation is planning its holiday decorations at the William Paca House around the theme “Gingerbread.”

Garden In Lights is a magical walking tour that takes visitors on a beautiful trip through the woods. The holiday spirit that prevailed in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries comes to life this holiday season at the William Paca House. Stroll through decorated rooms and listen as first person interpreters portraying both real and fictional characters provide a glimpse of what life was like in centuries gone by. For the first time this year, living history interpreters portraying 18th-century frontiersmen will be stationed at the Barracks at 43 Pinkney Street. A guide will lead groups from the Paca House to the Barracks to find out how men from the colonial frontier are faring in their temporary quarters.

The Christmas Doll is set in Dickensonian London, and tells a magical story of Lucy and Glory Wolcott, two orphaned sisters who escape the work house and find a home in a most unexpected place. After meeting up with a host of colorful street characters of both good and ill nature, Lucy and Glory team up with streetwise and charming, Nick Button. Nick teaches the girls all they need to know to survive the sometimes frightening life of a street urchin, but when Glory finds a muddy doll buried in the river bank, their luck turns for the better. The story is scored with both haunting and toe tapping musical numbers, and is filled with delightfully colorful characters sure to win your heart.

This year’s holiday show, "Holiday Spectacular" will feature some traditional holiday music as well as some new energetic numbers that will be sure to please audiences of all ages. Some favorite holiday characters Frosty, Rudolf , Dancing Bears and Trees to name a few, will be a part of this show. Lea Capps, President of the Talent Machine Company will be directing the show, she will be assisted by Zachary Karr, a former Talent Machine performer, Cyndi Wallman is the Musical Director, she will be assisted by Sarah Johansen, a senior a Broadneck High School and a current Talent Machine performer. The cast ranging in age from 6 to 18 will bring high energy and excitement to the stage.
