Room To Grow

THE PROBLEM: Storage, storage, storage! At the age of 12, Riley has outgrown her “little girl room” and is ready for a colorful change. Aside from freshening up for growing up, she clearly needs answers to her storage woes.

THE SOLUTION: Riley and her mother, Kim, were wide open for suggestions. With that as a cue, I headed straight for the style I call “cottage hip.” Chair rail, wainscoting and semi-distressed white washed wide plank hardwood flooring sets the cottage tone. The color palette I selected features paint colors with names like raspberry and mojito. It’s a vibrant palette that is playful without being childish.

Furniture choices are the key to addressing Riley’s storage issues. I
am specifying a desk and hutch combination by Russell & Mackenna.
Adding a storage bench and a dresser that both contain cubby boxes will
allow for ultimate organization. With a larger bed and side tables,
Riley will feel more grown up. The Dash & Albert rug I chose adds
texture and depth to the room. Lastly, to soften the space I included
an ottoman upholstered in bright yellow fabric and curtains with a bold
blue Fireworks print.
