In Focus: Local Gatherings and Fundraisers

The guests were a study in contrasts-handsomely so-at the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra's Black & White Ball on April 29. The third annual gala to benefit the capital's resident orchestra introduced the community to the ASO's new music director, José-Luis Novo.

The envelope, please: More than 400 guests headed for Hollywood at The Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation's 39th Annual Fundraiser at the Sheraton Hotel on April 16. This year's spring black-tie gala, "A Night at the Oscars," benefited the hospital's state-of-the-art technology, nursing scholarships for continuing education and community outreach projects. Major sponsors included Comcast, Curtis Showcase Homes and the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Best Baskets: A May Day Tea on May 4 honored winners of the annual May Basket competition sponsored by the Garden Club of Old Annapolis-Towne.
