We send congratulations to Leadership Anne Arundel that is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a homecoming gala at Chartwell Country Club in Severna Park. The event will not only toast the incoming Class of 2009 but also recognize the very first class that launched Leadership Anne Arundel back in 1994.
There have been 932 graduates of the program. Leadership Anne Arundel develops and nurtures community trustees who improve the quality of life in Anne Arundel County by convening diverse stakeholders, bridging their divides, and facilitating resolutions for the common good. LAA provides people of diverse backgrounds with the education, resources and networks necessary to become successful proactive leaders.
Festivities are set for 6 to 11 p.m. Nov. 1, with an open bar, a silent auction, dinner, and music by the Rob Levit Trio and the High School All Star Band. Dancing follows dinner. You can check auction items at
www.leadershipaa.org.

Hats off the Hospice of the Chesapeake and the success it had with Hospice Cup XXVII on Sept. 27 in spite of the weather.
Jim Mandrin of Annapolis and W. Dennis Gilligan of Pasadena were the honorary co-chairmen this year. Board member
Dick Ladd also stepped forward, hosting the VIP party at his home.
Committee members included board member
Andrew Cole; Vice President
Deborah Caldwell; Treasurer
Scott Douglas;
Barb Duvall, who handled entertainment;
David Hoyt of Shearwater Sailing Club; Secretary Brien
Jones-Lantzy; board members

Hospice Cup benefactors include hospices in the regional area, and the number participating varies each year. This year’s proceeds have not been announced yet. Since Hospice Cup began in 1982, it has raised more than $7 million for hospice-supported programs in the region. Quite impressive!
Social calendar time, everyone, so note the following.
Caritas Society of St. John’s College will host its annual book and author event from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 9. Exciting authors include
Robert Bennett, who wrote “In the Ring: The Trails of a Washington Lawyer”( and we are talking handling some big-time cases here, ladies and gentlemen);
Roger Martin, author of “Racing Odysseus”; and our very own
Jim Cheevers, the humble writer-contributor for “Historic Photos of the United States Naval Academy.” Order before Nov. 3 and pay $30; it’s $35 at the door. Send a check payable to The Caritas Society, St. John’s College, P.O. Box 2800, Annapolis, MD 21404. Nametags, which are proof of payment, will be at the registration desk at Key Lobby foyer on Nov. 9.
The Severn Town Club will sponsor its 45th Holly Ball on Friday, Nov. 21, with an evening of dinner, dancing, live music, complimentary photography, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Breast Center at Anne Arundel Medical Center and various other local charities. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, and tickets are $150. Call
Ada Feffer at (410) 757-2501 for details.
I must apologize to Anne Arundel Court Appointed Special Advocates for incorrect information last month. The gala honored Bank Annapolis employees for their contributions to the CASA program.
