More to come...

Shelter

Anyone in need of shelter should contact the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services at 410-421-8400 or 410-863-4888.

Trash/Recycling Collection

With DPW crews focusing on snow removal, no refuse services will be provided Tuesday, Feb. 9. This includes trash, recycling and yard waste collection. There will be no makeup days. This decision to cancel trash/recycling pickup was also made to ensure the safety of residents and our crews because placement of refuse containers becomes “shaky” at best on piles of plowed snow.

Parking

Emergency Snow Route Parking - With the possibility that a second major snowstorm will strike the region today, Mayor Joshua J. Cohen is asking residents to clear vehicles from the Emergency Snow Routes by noon TODAY, February 9, 2010. Any cars remaining on those routes after noon TODAY will be subject to towing. Cars will be towed to the City Dock parking lot.

The National Weather Service is calling for between 18 to 24 inches to fall in the region from noon today to Wednesday evening.

Given this forecast, the Mayor is requesting residents to move vehicles from the city’s major routes so plows and emergency vehicles can operate across the city.

The City’s three garages – Hillman, Knighton and Gott’s – are available free to city residents on an indefinite basis. The City Dock parking lot is also available for free to residents. The Eastport Shopping Center parking lot (1005 Bay Ridge Ave.) between the old theater, Norman Drive and Americana Drive, is available to Eastport residents.

If you are not sure your home is along an Emergency Snow Route, go to the city Web site, http://www.annapolis.gov, to find snow route maps and emergency routes along with other important weather-related information.

For city residents who parked their cars at the City’s garages this weekend, free parking will remain in effect until further notice. The garages are also available for residents during the upcoming storm.

Snow Removal Questions:

Department of Public Works crews are working around the clock to clear the City’s 87 miles of road. The Emergency Snow Routes and most of the Snow Connector Routes are passable as of Sunday, and crews are beginning to turn their attention to residential streets. City officials ask for your continued patience and cooperation as they work toward completing the removal process. IT IS EXPECTED TO TAKE AT LEAST FIVE DAYS TO MAKE ALL CITY ROUTES PASSABLE. Complications could be numerous given the sheer volume of snow. (More than 30 inches of snow fell in some parts of Annapolis this weekend.) Also, preliminary forecasts are calling for 5 or more inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

City residents with questions about snow removal can call the DPW Operations line (410-263-7967) during the day. After hours, Public Works emergencies can be reported on the City’s 24-hour emergency hotline at 410-224-2140.
