    Smiles were in bloom at the annual "Tastebuds" fundraiser, which drew hundreds to Loews Annapolis Hotel on September 30. Civic-minded guests gathered to support the planters and flowerboxes that beautify streets, sidewalks and public areas downtown.

    Annie Awards

    Friends and representatives of the area's leading arts organizations filled the Visitors' Center at Quiet Waters Park for the presentation of the 5th Annual Annie Awards on September 23. Six Anne Arundel county residents received the Cultural Arts Foundation's highest honor for their work in visual, literary and performing arts, arts patron and arts educator, and for lifetime achievement.


    Cynthia Alderdice, a printmaker and jewelry maker, won the Annie for Visual Arts.

    Jeff Jacobs of Carrol's Creek Café accepted an award for outstanding corporate sponsorship of the arts.

    Beth Whaley, shown with Ken Sabel, received the Annie Award for lifetime achievement.

    Dulcimer player Maggie Sansone, a former Annie Award winner, performed with harpist Sue Richards.

    Ray Williamson received the Annie Award for literary arts.

    Rotary Crab Feast

    Crab lovers turned out by the thousands for the 59th Annual Rotary Crab Feast, held on September 17th at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Hundreds of bushels of steamed crabs were cracked and consumed as attendees enjoyed music, raffles, and an auction. The Rotary donates all Feast proceeds to local charitable organizations.

    Hospice of the Chesapeake Golf Tournament

    Atlantic Golf at South River was the setting for the 2nd Annual Hospice of the Chesapeake Golf Tournament, which raised more than $48,000 on September 28 to support services in Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties.
