There are few givens in life. But what we can count on are death, taxes, and Eric Egeli’s need for speed.
What started in the sixth grade as a way to stay active in the fall without playing soccer has evolved into earning Indian Creek’s Player’s Choice Award as a freshman, team MVP his sophomore year, setting course records, and becoming the fastest runner in Indian Creek School history.
With Usain Bolt and 1936 Olympian Louis Zamperini as his running idols, it’s only natural that he has a high appreciation for the importance of the sport.
“The fate of a meet, or match, or a game, does not fall on any single player,” Egeli says. “It requires a group effort to come out on top. This gives a great opportunity to people newer to the sport because even they matter.”
When he’s not running his way into the record books, he’s working to make his classmates’ lives easier as the school treasurer.
Eric will be attending Virginia Military Institute (VMI) due to his desire to join the ROTC. He has his sight set on majoring in mechanical engineering and becoming a military officer.
He also has a philanthropic side. Living on a farm, he took it upon himself to grow a garden last summer and donate the produce to a local homeless shelter, a pursuit he plans to continue this year.
