Tedeschi Trucks Band Keep on Growing Live in Boston
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have been hailed as one of the leading forces in the revival of classic Soul and Funk. The band has traveled the world for more than a decade, blowing minds with their electrifying live performances and their raw, hand-crafted studio recordings. The Brooklyn based 11-piece group delivers sharp, danceable Funk grooves, impassioned singing and sweet Soul hooks that stay in your head for days on end. The group is touring behind its sixth album under the renowned independent Daptone label, 2014’s Give the People What They Want, which was honored with a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Album. The prolific power-house and survivor that she is, Sharon Jones has fully recovered from a 2013 cancer diagnosis and bounced back with one of the biggest years of her career, filled with milestone accomplishments and a renewed energy for life. I’ve been lucky enough to experience a Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings performance and highly recommend you check them out. Described by her Kings as a ‘fireball’ their Queen, Miss Sharon Jones may be small in stature but her voice is huge! She blows on the mic as loud as her horn section, singing freely leaving her audience empowered by the music.
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings Stranger to My Happiness
Doyle Bramhall II is rightfully one of the most distinctive vocalists, guitarists, composers and producers in contemporary music. When Doyle was 18, he was recruited by Jimmie Vaughan to play with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Bramhall II’s reputation blossomed and two years later, he co-founded the Arc Angels with Charlie Sexton and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section: Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. After Bramhall II’s two critically acclaimed solo albums, Eric Clapton then recruited Bramhall II to join him on a full time basis and their association flourished. In addition to Clapton, Bramhall II has been in demand as composer, guitarist, and producer, collaborating with such as artists as Sheryl Crow, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Elton John, Gary Clark Jr., Erykah Badu, Gregg Allman, and many others. Bramhall II is launching the next chapter in an extraordinary musical journey with his much anticipated fourth solo album. It is this editor’s opinion that he is my generation’s guitar god – a little bit of Hendrix, a touch of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a spot of Clapton may be influences but his guitar style and stellar musicianship is completely Doyle Bramhall II.
