Marcy Dunn Ramsey: Line Dancing
The Carla Massoni Gallery, 203 High Street, Chestertown, MD 21620, Free, 410-778-7330, Massoniart.com.
brThis current work is a further exploration into the relationship between the natural world and the human psyche. The eloquent gestures of looping, twisted reeds, the intersections in a stand of marsh grass, the staccato shapes of dark and light stalks, or the muted forms of submerged leaves communicate a resonance within us through a lyrical language of signs. The grace of these simple phenomena is fleeting yet leaves its mark, igniting in us a kinship and exhilaration that is wonderful in the true sense of that word. The sky enters largely into these pieces as well, acting in role of light-giver. In its mirror image, we see the world upside-down, and the potential for disorientation can bring about new revelations of strength and fragility. From this point of view, our lives take on the qualities of these ephemera; faint tracings on the surface of mystery. The challenge is to be receptive to the message of interconnectedness, which is also a message of hope. Line Dancing is on display now through October 4th.
Wildlife Trafficking Awareness at The National Zoo
Monday-Sunday (364 days a year), 6 a.m.- 8 p.m., Free (Donations Welcomed), 202-633-4888, Nationalzoosi.edu.
brThe National Zoo in D.C. is just a stone’s throw away. Biodiversity is not just threatened by habitat loss and climate change. The demand for illegal animal products made from at-risk and endangered species and the exotic pet trade is leading to catastrophic decreases for many populations. It is now the world's fourth largest criminal market-after drugs, weapons and human trafficking. When you visit the Zoo, look for their new free-standing mobile exhibit kiosk, where you can learn more about the impact of wildlife trafficking on animals in the Zoo's living collection and what you can do to make a difference and stop the demand.
brCheer for D.C. United as they take on San Jose!
