Chestertown, MD-This Saturday,Sultana Education Foundation and Crow Farm & Vineyard will run the first-ever paddling experience designed to offer participants the opportunity to explore two of Kent County's most cele ated features: waterways and farmland.
On Saturday, May 17th, long-time guide (and Chestertown Mayor) Chris Cerino will meet participants at 10 am at Turner's Creek Public Landing to paddle one of the most scenic tributaries on the Sassafras River. "Because of the abundance of fish in Turner's Creek, there is a tremendous amount of bird activity. The creek contains multiple bald eagle nests, a blue heron rookery, loads of ospreys, and even the regionally endangered American lotus," said Cerino. "It is also not uncommon to see spawning fish such as carp or shad. This is a special place that everyone should explore."
After paddling and eating a bag lunch, the group will travel to Crow Farm & Vineyard, a 3rd generation family farm that features a B&B, vineyard, and pastures of grazing Black Angus Cattle. "We enjoy sharing the beauty of our wide open spaces that overlook the vineyard, winery, and grazing Angus beef," said Judy Crow, farmer. "There is always something to see or do on our 365-acre working family farm."
On the farm, the group will be given a tour of the winery, which will include samples of wine, beef, and other farm products.
Space is limited to 10 participants, so those interested in this program are advised to make reservations promptly. For more information or to book a Public Paddle, please visit: www.sultanaeducation.org
