What inspired you to pursue a career in medical aesthetics?
I was first introduced to medical aesthetics while working alongside a plastic surgeon who was a friend and mentor. Seeing firsthand how transformative these treatments could be—both physically and emotionally—helped me realize my true passion. I love helping others feel confident in their own skin and enhancing their natural beauty in a way that aligns with their goals. Medical aesthetics allows me to combine my love for science, artistry, and patient care, making it the perfect career for me.
What advice do you give to aspiring medical aesthetics practitioners?
Find a mentor and work in a practice—even unpaid—to get your foot in the door. Build a strong foundation in anatomy, not just techniques, and prioritize emergency preparedness. Take a cadaver course to understand facial structures and train in ultrasound for precision and safety. Stay current with accredited trainings and join ISPAN to network and grow. Success in medical aesthetics is the result of continuous learning, patient safety, and mastering both artistry and science.
What’s a memorable success story from your career that stands out to you?
During a patient’s consultation for filler, I noticed a wound on her face. She assumed it was just a scratch, but something about it concerned me. Instead of proceeding with the treatment, I provided her with a referral to dermatology. She followed up, and a biopsy confirmed it was skin cancer. Fortunately, it was caught early, and she was able to receive the necessary treatment. This experience reinforced the importance of thorough skin assessments and patient advocacy. Aesthetics isn’t just about enhancing beauty; it’s about prioritizing patient safety, early detection, and overall health.
