Upper School English Teacher Jason Salinas asks students hard questions, expecting a range of responses. He places enormous value on discussion and working on tough problems together. “All of us know more than any one of us,” said Salinas. “By collaborating, we get to better answers to serious questions.” The process is an important part of the lesson. As a former helicopter pilot, he also brings a valuable perspective. “I try to help students see that yes, the world has real problems, but a 9/10 on a quiz isn’t one of them. Sometimes I’ll ask, ‘Is the helo on fire?’”
