Their shows are always a feast for the eyes with body painting and belly dancers while providing sonic textures of Psychedelic Tribal Rock that are sure to stimulate your senses. Telesma has some of their favorite local artists and musicians lined up that have been part of their journey over the past decade, plus a couple surprises in store to commemorate this special occasion. Bryan Jones, bass player remarks, “One of the elements that has defined Telesma over the years has been our use of ancient instruments, such as the didgerido, and sanskrit mantra chants fused with rock and dance grooves. That unique approach has led to music that crosses over many genres.” Join Telesma for a magical evening of music, art and celebration on Saturday, December 27th for the Telesma Decade Dance at The 8X10 in Baltimore. Fun Factoid – Did you know about Annapolis Musician Fund for Musicians?
It is a non-profit organization created to provide temporary financial relief to professional Annapolis musicians who cannot work due to sickness, injury, or any other circumstance leaving them unable to perform. The fund acts as an emergency relief fund for lost income. If you are a local music fanatic and want to give a tax deductible donation to support the local music scene, visit www.am-fm.org

Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge features all sounds local and live for music lovers 18+. Friday, December 26th at 8:30pm is the Post Xmas Soiree with The Jarflys and Van Meter. The Jarflys are a supergroup of local musicians that have been playing together for more than 10 years. Although the band has somewhat of a revolving lineup, it always consists of Jimi HaHa of Jimmie’s Chicken Shack on vocals/guitar, Bryan Ewald of Starbelly on guitar, Larry Melton on bass, and Noel White of Underfoot on drums. Opening for The Jarflys is Van Meter, an Americana Roots Rock group fronted by Jennifer Van Meter with husband, Noel White on drums. A self-professed Lucinda Williams superfan, you will hear that influence immediately and will be captivated by Van Meter’s own unique bittersweet vocal tone and bold guitar playing.

The 9 Songwriters Series at 49 West in Annapolis is on Monday, December 29th at 7pm. Founded in 2008 by singer/songwriter Justin Trawick, “The 9 Songwriter Series” is a touring live music event based in Washington, DC and frequents 49 West in Annapolis the last Monday of every month. Each installment features nine solo singer/songwriters performing in rotation and often sitting in with each other, providing audiences with a rich, intimate, varied listening experience. Where else can you hear songs from nine different artists for just 10 bucks? To date, over 100 different artists have participated in the series, at events from Annapolis to Virginia, DC, Philadelphia, and even New York City. Monday’s series features the following musicians: Justin Trawick, Jay Hurtt, Brandon Hardesty, Angela Charles, Jordan Sokel, Jessie Hofmann, Larry Bryne, Ben Fisher, and Shawn Owen. Tuesday, December 30th at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis it is none other than Swampcandy, a nitty gritty foot stompin’ Americana, Roots, Blues duo featuring Ruben Dobbs on guitar and vocals and Joey Mitchell on upright bass and bass drum. When not on tour you can find them every Tuesday at Rams Head Tavern to soothe what ails you with a taste of their four on the floor old school stomp and boogie.
