Fun Factoid – Did you know the New York City Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball has had 6 makeovers? The current version installed in 2009, is a 12-foot-wide geodesic sphere illuminated by 672 LED modules. Bolted onto the modules are nearly 3,000 Waterford crystal triangles!

Entertainment kicks off on Wednesday, December 31st at 3 pm, with a march from the Market House to the Big Tent. Following the performance, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and spectators count down to the New Year. At the stroke of midnight, colorful fireworks and lights fill the sky above downtown Baltimore. The annual Baltimore’s New Year’s Eve Spectacular is presented by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Metro Subway, Light Rail and Bus are the best ways to get downtown for the holiday celebration. brThe New Year’s Eve fireworks display in the Nation’s Capital is one of the best in the world and worth the effort to make those lasting memories! The best way to get to the National Mall is to take the Metro . Stations nearby include Smithsonian, Metro Center, Gallery Place-Chinatown, Judiciary Square, Federal Triangle and L'Enfant Plaza. The Smithsonian Station will be “entry-only” at the conclusion of the fireworks display. It typically takes 1 ½ to 2 hours to clear the Mall after the fireworks.
