THE 1ST ANNUAL BAY BRIDGE PADDLE
brThe first ever across-the-bay-bridge-not for-the-faint-of-heart Bay Bridge Paddle is Saturday, May 14th at Sandy Point State Park. Whether you’re brand new to paddling or a seasoned veteran, this paddle will have something for paddlers of all skill levels. The 8.4-mile race course will take competitors across the breathtaking Chesapeake Bay and underneath the magnificent Bay Bridge 8–11 a.m. More than $7,000 in prize money will be awarded. There will also be a 5K paddle, as well as a novice slalom course for kids and adults closer to the beach area. WALK THE WALK FOUNDATION WALK: ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY KIDS IN NEED BENEFIT
brWalk the Walk Foundation hosts The Walk benefiting Anne Arundel County Kids in Need on Thursday, May 12th 6–8 p.m. at Waugh Chapel Towne Centre in Gambrills. Walk the Walk Foundation exists to serve local, underprivileged children through a Christmas gift program, providing school supplies, and meeting various basic needs. This family-friendly event features kids’ activities, live music, and a beer garden. There will also be prizes for lucky participants. The minimum donation level is $10. SPCA WALK AND RUN FOR ANIMALS
brYour friends at What’s Up? Media double dog dare you to donate to the SPCA! Join the 25th Annual SPCA Walk and Run for the Animals was postponed to Sunday, June 19th at Quiet Waters Park. The 5K Run starts at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. There is even a Tails and Trails 5K! The benefit event will allow the SPCA to continue its efforts in providing shelter and rehabilitation to companion animals in need and promoting humane care and concern for the animals. brParticipate in the Color Your Heart 5K Fun Run and experience University of Maryland’s Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s one-of-a-kind running event. This non-competitive, family-friendly run maximizes fun by showering runners in a rainbow of colored powder. Participants receive a free t-shirt and other giveaways. MARYLAND THERAPEUTIC RIDING’S DERBY DAY
brThe Seventh Annual Derby Day is a fun-filled event consisting of a live showing of the Kentucky Derby, customized video horse races throughout the evening, mock betting, a hat contest, live and silent auctions, a buffet dinner, drinks, and mint juleps, of course. Maryland Therapeutic Riding seeks to improve the quality of life and conquer physical, developmental, and emotional health challenges through human and horse interaction. brAnne Arundel County Casa, Inc. hosts their 16th annual fundraising benefit, Tee Up for a Child on Thursday, May 5th at Eisenhower Golf Course in Crownsville. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Registration is $175 for an individual and $700 for a foursome. The mission of Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc. is to advocate for and support abused and neglected children in the court system to ensure their right to safe, stable, permanent homes. brGiving back to the community never goes out of style! Hospice Hundred hosts Fashion for a Cause on Thursday, May 12th 6:30–9:30 p.m. at Porsche of Annapolis. This Summer 2016 Fashion Preview features a stunning runway show with a Celebrity DJ, signature cocktails, and delicious bites. Hospice of the Chesapeake created Hospice Hundred to educate the next generation of philanthropists about Hospice of the Chesapeake, to develop financial resources to support programs to recruit volunteers to accomplish goals and have fun while supporting hospice. Hospice Hundred proudly supports Chesapeake Kids, which provides quality perinatal and pediatric palliative care to individuals and families in Anne Arundel County and Prince George’s County. ST. MICHAELS RUNNING FESTIVAL
brThe St. Michaels Running Festival, now in its fifth year, is one of the premier destination races in the Mid-Atlantic. The event takes place Saturday, May 21st 7 a.m.–12 p.m. The start location is St. Michaels High School and the post-race party is at Fremont Street. Based in St. Michaels, one of the oldest waterfront towns on the Chesapeake, runners will be treated to gorgeous water views, a quick mile past charming Main Street shops for the 10K and half marathon, and a rockin’ after-party in downtown St. Michaels. This year also includes a 1K Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and younger. Registration fees for children are $25. Race registration fees vary depending on 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon registration. This is a great way for kids to be a part of the event and start learning about their own physical fitness. The run benefits the St. Michaels Community Center and SMYLE. Registration is $25–110. SIX PILLARS CENTURY BLACKWATER CYCLING TOUR
brSix Pillars Century Ride is Saturday, May 7th 7 a.m.–4 p.m. at Great Marsh Park. The majority of the ride is through the picturesque Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Various rides include: 11 Mile Family Ride, 37 Mile Fun and Fitness course, 56 Mile Ironman Eagleman course, 70.3 Course, and 100 Mile Century course. OSPREY TRIATHLON
brThe Osprey Triathlon is a family-friendly event welcoming athletes of all levels and skill experience. Not ready for the full triathlon? Create a team with friends or family and compete in one, two, or three legs of the race. The race is a benefit for Kent School on Sunday, May 15th at Kent School in Chestertown and consists of a seven-mile bike race, two-mile kayak course, and three-mile run.
