rThe Washington Wizards selected hometown favorite Otto Porter, Jr. with the third overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. The 6’8” former Georgetown forward will wear number 22. The team also traded their two second round picks, South Dakota State guard Nate Wolters (38th pick) and Oregon forward Arsalan Kazemi (54th) to the Philadelphia 76ers for Glen Rice, Jr., who played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Developmental League. r rr
rThe Washington Capitals also went through the draft process on Sunday, taking left winger Andre Burakovsky from Malmo, a member of the second-tier Swedish league, with the 23rd overall selection. The team also selected defenseman Madison Bowey (2nd round, 53rd overall), defenseman Zachary Sanford (2nd round, 61st overall), defenseman Blake Heinrich (5th round, 144th overall), center Brian Pinho (6th round, 174th overall), and defenseman Tyler Lewington (7th round, 204th overall). The team traded the 84th, 114th, and 127th overall picks to the Winnipeg Jets for the 61st overall pick, which they used to select Sanford, who is heading to Boston College. The Caps are also pursuing Vincent Lecavalier, whose contract was bought out by the Tampa Bay Lightning last week. r rr
