Like it or not, though, August is most certainly upon us. Here’s what we have to look forward to:
August 3: The Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast celebrates its 47th year with all-you-can-eat male crabs, Maryland vegetable crab soup, sweet Maryland corn, draft beer, beef barbecue sandwiches, and more. At Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis.
August 4: Betterton Appreciation Day is a family-friendly event that includes a parade down Main Street, crafts, games, and plenty of food. Each year’s event keeps getting bigger and better, so this is one date you’ll want to mark on your calendar. Throughout Betterton.
At the Berlin Peach Festival, attendees will get the chance to take part in peach pie eating and baking contests, view artisan demonstrations and crafts, and shop from local vendors. This family-friendly event also features tons of activities for the kids.
August 5: 100 local and regional artists set up on the first block of West Street and under the trees along Calvert Street for the First Sunday Arts Festival.
August 6: An ever-popular summer staple, the Queen Anne’s County Fair features a number of family-friendly activities, including corn hole games, goose and duck calling contests, truck pulls, a rodeo, jousting, and a number of 4-H shows. Musical entertainment will be provided by barbershop favorites Bay Country Gentlemen on the 8th and Jones Boys on the 9th. At the Queen Anne’s County 4-H Park, Centreville.
August 10: The 30-mile Annapolis to Oxford Race kicks off the popular Oxford Regatta weekend.
August 11: Silopanna Music Festival features Main Stage headliners include Robert Randolph and the Family Band, G. Love and Special Sauce, Citizen Cope, and CAKE. Local talent Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, J. Roddy Walston and The Business, and The Grilled Lincolns will take the evening slots at the Lawn and Pavilion Stages. At the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, Crownsville.
Featuring all-you-can-eat Maryland delicacies like steamed crabs, crab soup, fried fish, fried clams, BBQ chicken, and more, the 33rd annual Seafood Feast-I-Val also offers live entertainment by a local band, craft sales, door prizes, and displays. At Sailwinds Park, Cambridge.
The 9th annual 12 oz. Regatta is open to the public and offers fun for competitors and spectators alike. Those taking part in the regatta are required to put their expertise and ingenuity to the test, as they construct model boats from common household items and at least one empty beer can (or soda can for the kids). August 24: The Maryland State Fair brings a number of national musicians, including Victoria Justice, The Band Perry, Newsboys, and The Afters, as well as tons of family-friendly attractions like rides, games, exhibits, and livestock shows to Timonium. August 25: The 38th annual Maryland Renaissance Festival will transform 25 wooded acres in Crownsville into a 16th-century village called Revel Grove. There, every day is festival day. At Revel Grove, Crownsville.
August 30: Abbey Road on the River is a festival honoring the music and legend of The Beatles. It features a number of Beatles tribute bands from all over the world, some of whom dress like the Fab Four, and some of whom put a fresh take on their music. At National Harbor.
