September 1: An estimated thirty drum corps from throughout North America will converge in Annapolis for the 48th Annual Drum Corps Associates World Championships. The drums corps will be practicing on thirty fields around the county throughout Labor Day weekend.

September 2: One-hundred local and regional artists set up on the first block of West Street and under the trees along Calvert Street for the First Sunday Arts Festival. The event is family-friendly, and features a wide array of fun activities and entertainment.

September 8: Come cele ate the 45th anniversary of the tasty and entertaining Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park. The Crab Soup Cook-off, an Annapolis favorite that ings together the city's greatest restaurateurs and chefs in a classic Maryland show-down, anchors the event.

September 12: Enjoy carnival rides, an Arundel Idol contest, 4-H exhibits, and more at the 60th installment of the Anne Arundel County Fair at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds through September 16th.

September 15: Often called "Fall Oxford" to distinguish it from its summer counterpart, the Race to Oxford plots its course across the Chesapeake from Annapolis to Oxford, and dates back nearly 60 years.

Designed to give people of all ages an opportunity to reconnect with the river that makes its surrounding area a special place to live or visit, Corsica River Watershed Awareness Day combines family fun with engaging environmental education, and features a number of awesome activities. Highlights include environmental exhibits, live music, tours of the historic farmhouse, children's crafts, ecotours, hayrides, and more.

At the annual Summer Sendoff in downtown Cam idge, you'll be able to cele ate the season with great food, and wash it down with a variety of beverages. September 21: The Chesapeake Film Festival has grown tremendously since its conception. Now in its fifth year, the festival ings the finest in narrative, documentary, and short film – films you'd likely never see on the Shore otherwise – to towns throughout the region from September 21st through the 23rd. This year's festival includes Arcadia and The Playroom, both starring John Hawkes, A Fierce Green Fire, All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Rembert, Connected, Monsieur Lazhar, local filmmaker Cece Davis' world premiere musical short Jolene, and more.

September 22: A charity sailing regatta, Hospice Cup XXXI raises funds for hospice organizations throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. Sailors of all skill levels are welcome to participate, and with two classes, there'll be plenty of stiff competition. Even if you don't want to race, you can join in the fun aboard the Spectator Boat, or catch up later at the Shore Party at the Annapolis Sailing School.

September 28: Bibliofile? Head to Baltimore. From September 28th through the 30th, the Baltimore Book Festival will fill the streets of Mt. Vernon Place with a litany of literary treats. It features hundreds of author appearances and book signings, more than 100 exhibitors and book sellers, cooking demos by cele ity chefs, non-stop readings on multiple stages, storytellers and hands-on projects for the kids, panel discussions, street theater, live music, and, if you can believe it, lots more.

September 29: On September 29th, 1767, Kunta Kinte arrived in Annapolis aboard the slave ship Lord Ligonier. 245 years later, the Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival will cele ate his memory. Designed to help preserve the roots of African culture, this annual festival transforms City Dock into an African village and marketplace.

September 30: Held along the waterfront of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, the 6th annual St. Michaels Concours d'Elegance features coachbuilt automobiles, as well as other award-winning, significant motorcars from the Golden Age of Motoring (1900-1942). It will also include a unique collection of automobiles form the post-war sports and racing era and a display of classic wooden speedboats from the same time period.

Fiesta DC, the Latino festival of Washington, D.C., cele ates 40 years of tradition. Taking place on Mt. Pleasant Street from noon to 7 p.m., the free event hosts five stages full of music, folklore, theater, a children's festival, a science fair, and other performing artists, as well as a parade of nations, which presents hundreds of dancers from 30 folkloric groups from Latin America, Spain, and the Caribbean.
