Every year, Annapolis salutes past and present military members with its Memorial Day Parade. The parade begins Monday, May 27th at 10 a.m. at Amos Garrett Boulevard and continues along its annual route around Church Circle and along Main Street.
Following the parade, the City of Annapolis and the Fleet Reserve Branch #24 will co-host a memorial ceremony at Susan Campbell Park.
Note: Amos Garrett Blvd. and Constitution Ave. will be closed at 8 a.m. to help parade participants assemble. At about 9:45 a.m., all streets along the parade route will close until the final parade participants have passed. The Circulator will be providing free rides between all city parking garages.
Meanwhile, across the Chesapeake Bay, the annual Chestertown Tea Party Festival provides no shortage of activities for people of all ages.
From Thursday through Sunday, residents can enjoy a seemingly endless array of activity beginning with a presentation titled “Fighting Old Nep – Food Culture of Enslaved Afro-Marylanders” shown at the Bordley Building at the Kent County Historical Society.
Highlights of the weekend include the Annual Tea Party Classic Run (8 a.m. Saturday) and the Tea Party Reenactment (2 p.m. Saturday).
Folks can enjoy schooner sails, walking tours of the town, face paintings, children's colonial games, a puppet show, flag raisings, raft race, and a craft beer and wine tasting.
There will be plenty of live music featuring Jonathan Simmons, David and Ginger Hille and, Slim Harrison, the Muddy Hole Band, Spiced Punch, Stephen Christoff, and Step Jam.
The final event is the Memorial Day Parade, which takes place Monday at 10 a.m. and concludes at War Memorial Park.
