brMemorial Day Weekend gives us the opportunity to reflect on our freedom and how it came to be while we appreciate those who have served for us. Many will celebrate the weekend (and for many a Monday holiday off from work) with a cookout, socializing with family and friends, and enjoying the spring weather. br
brOne way to feel more patriotic is by celebrating the Chestertown Tea Party Festival, which takes place Thursday through Sunday around the town. The festival is an ode to America’s ability to stand up against British Parliament’s closing of the port of Boston. It’s also an ode to throwing large shipments of tea into bodies of water… kind of. Legend states that Chestertown residents met at town center and headed down High Street to the brigantine Geddes and tossed her cargo of tea into the Chester River. That occasion will be reenacted Saturday at 2 p.m.br
brBeing located right on the water is a one of the many perks of living in Maryland. The Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester is adding even more incentive to living near the water by offering free sails from Long Wharf in Cambridge on Monday. Sail times are 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. Passengers can sign up for a sail on a first-come, first-served basis at Long Wharf dock on the day of the sails.br
brChesapeake Beach Resort & Spa continues its Rock the Dock music series with performances by Sir Rod (Thursday, 7-9:45 p.m.), New Censation (Friday, 6:45-10:45 p.m.), Two for the Road (Saturday, 6:30-10:45 p.m.), Jimi Smooth (Sunday, 4-8 p.m.), and Cray Fish (Monday, 3-7 p.m.). These waterfront performances literally rock the dock as guests are treated to a beautiful view of the water and entertaining music.br
brIf your Memorial Day weekend plans need some baseball, there are plenty of options to choose from. The Bowie Baysox close out their series against the Eerie Seawolves on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. The Delmarva Shorebirds will take on the Kannapolis Intimidators Thursday through Sunday in a four-game series. The Shorebirds begin their series against the Hagerstown Suns on Monday at 5:05 p.m. Promotions include Hunter Orange Hat Giveaway, Wild Game Night, Big Beer Friday, fireworks, 2 Buck Monday, and more. br
brThe Baltimore Orioles will be taking on the Cleveland Indians in a four-game series Thursday through Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Promotions for the series include an alumni autograph signing on Thursday and an Orioles ripcord bracelet giveaway on Sunday. The Washington Nationals begin a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park on Monday at 1:35 p.m.br
brCollege lacrosse fans are in for a real treat this weekend. M&T Bank Stadium is hosting the NCAA Division I, (Monday, 1 p.m.) Division II (Salisbury vs. Tufts on Sunday, 1 p.m.), and Division III, (Sunday, 4 p.m.) National Championships this weekend, which are preceded by the Division I Semifinals on Saturday at 1 and 3:30 p.m., the latter matchup featuring the Maryland Terrapins against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
