brbrThis weekend has it all. Celebrity appearances, some horse race you may have heard of (if you haven’t heard of it, you can’t call yourself a true Marylander), philanthropic events, health awareness, events on the water, golf, and more.
Martin Short, one of the most popular comedians to come out of the Saturday Night Live circuit, will be at Maryland Hall in Annapolis this Sunday for an evening of storytelling, sketch comedy and a performance from his character Jiminy Glick.
brbrAs for that race you may have (should have) heard of, the 139th running of the Preakness Stakes will take place Saturday around 6:15 p.m. at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Three-year-old California Chrome looks to complete the second of three legs in his bid to win the Triple Crown. The race may not be until the evening but the fun begins when the gates open at 8 a.m. Highlighting the day is InfieldFest, a day-long party taking place inside the track. InfieldFest’s musical performances are headlined by Lorde and Nas along with Switchfoot, Frank Walker, Glenn Morrison, Eli Young Band, Sundy Best, and Go Go Gadjet.br
brSpeaking of races, the 3rd Annual Chesapeake Bay Tour de Cure will take place Saturday at the Talbot County Community Center in Easton in an effort to combat diabetes. The route lengths consist of 100 miles (6:30 a.m. start time), 62 miles (8 a.m.), 31 miles (9:30 a.m.), and 10 miles (11 a.m.). The event benefits the American Diabetes Association.br
brWalk, run, bike, or rollerblade your way through Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis for the 16th Annual Walk/Run for SIDS & Child Loss on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. Funds raised for this event benefit families suffering experiencing SIDS and child loss. br
brAlso on Saturday, the Relay for Life will be making its way to Lindale Middle School in Linthicum and Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold. Both events are packed with family-friendly activities, and fun all the while supporting cancer research efforts.br
brIn its continuing effort to be green, the Annapolis Regional Transportation Management Association (ARTMA) encourages workers in Annapolis to take part in Bike to Work Day 2014, beginning at downtown Annapolis’ Market House. br
