July in Maryland means high humidity and hot temperatures. Beat the heat by checking out a few of the cool bands and musicians headed our way. Dennis Quaid & The Sharks: Rams Head on Stage, Annapolis, July 16th
Dennis Quaid is best known as a talented actor, but he’s proven to be an equally talented musician. Known for their rock ‘n’ roll and country-soul sounds, Dennis Quaid & The Sharks have been delighting audiences with both original and classic hits for over 15 years. Quaid and his band will be entertaining audiences at Rams Head on Stage on Monday, July 16th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $68 and can be purchased here.
Toots and The Maytals: Artscape Festival, Baltimore, July 21st
Toots and The Maytals are considered one of the most influential bands in the reggae genre. Their 1968 single “Do the Reggay” is credited with giving the genre its name. On Saturday, July 21st, Toots and The Maytals will bring their award-winning reggae-soul sound to Baltimore’s Artscape Festival. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on the MICA Main Stage, located at 1400 Cathedral Street. The concert is free to attend, and no tickets are required. For more information visit artscape.org.
Greta Van Fleet: 9:30 Club, D.C., July 20th and The Anthem, D.C., July 21st
Greta Van Fleet may be a modern-era rock band, but their music signals a resurgence of the golden age of classic rock. Their nostalgic sound draws heavily from both rock and blues influences including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, B.B. King, and most noticeably, Led Zeppelin. Greta Van Fleet will perform at 9:30 Club on Friday, July 20th and The Anthem on Saturday, July 21st. For more information, visit 930.com.
Cowboy Junkies: Avalon Theatre, Easton, July 27th (Pictured above)
Though Cowboy Junkies formed in 1985, it was their 1987 album The Trinity Session that gained them worldwide fame. Recorded inside Toronto’s Church of the Holy Trinity with the use of a single ambisonic microphone, the album features a unique sound and innovative blend of blues, country, folk, and jazz. The band has remained active for 30 years, producing a total of 16 studio albums and five live albums. Cowboy Junkies will be performing at the Avalon Theatre on Friday, July 27th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 and available here.
Creedence Clearwater Revisited: Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis, July 30th
In 1995, founding members of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford decided it wasn’t quite time to retire. The duo formed Creedence Clearwater Revisited to once again perform their hit songs live in concert. With a whole new generation of fans and a few new band members, Creedence Clearwater Revisited has gained international popularity. The band will perform at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Monday, July 30th, 8 p.m. For more information, visit Ramsheadonstage.com.
