Every year, a handful of books dominate bestseller lists, social media feeds, and bookstore displays—and while many of them deserve every bit of praise, there are countless others that quietly slip under the radar. They may not have gone viral on BookTok or spent months on bestseller lists, but that doesn't make their stories any less memorable.
One of my favorite things as a reader is stumbling upon a book that leaves me wondering, "Why isn't everyone talking about this?" If you're looking to read beyond the usual recommendations, here are six books I think deserve a lot more hype.
Shark Heart by Emily Habeck
On the surface, Shark Heart has one of the most unusual premises you'll ever encounter: a man is diagnosed with a rare condition that will slowly transform him into a great white shark. As newlyweds Lewis and Wren grapple with the diagnosis, they're forced to confront love, grief, and the inevitability of change.
As strange as the premise sounds, don't let it fool you. This isn't really a story about sharks—it's about loving someone through the unimaginable. Emily Habeck turns an absurd concept into something deeply human, creating a novel that's equal parts heartbreaking, tender, and unforgettable.
The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer
Clover Brooks works as a death doula, spending her days helping people navigate the end of life while avoiding meaningful connections in her own. When an elderly client gives her one final request, Clover embarks on a journey that challenges the quiet life she's carefully built around herself.
This is a gentle, reflective novel that reminds us it's never too late to embrace life. Despite dealing with death, it's surprisingly hopeful, filled with warmth, humor, and compassion. It's one of those books that quietly encourages you to appreciate the people and moments that matter most.
The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
Set between Cyprus and London, this beautifully layered novel follows Kostas and Defne, whose love story begins amid political conflict. Decades later, their daughter Ada grows up trying to understand a family history shaped by loss, displacement, and unspoken secrets—all while a fig tree silently bears witness to it all.
Elif Shafak has a remarkable way of blending history, nature, and family into something both intimate and expansive. The fig tree's perspective might sound unconventional, but it adds a magical quality that makes this story unlike anything else I've read. It's thoughtful, moving, and beautifully written.
Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
On the night Jen's teenage son commits a shocking crime, she watches her world fall apart. The next morning, however, she wakes up the day before—and then the day before that. As she continues traveling backward through time, Jen searches for the moment everything began to unravel.
This isn't just another time-travel thriller. It's an emotional mystery about motherhood, regret, and the lengths we'd go to protect the people we love. Gillian McAllister keeps the suspense high while delivering a story with surprising emotional depth.
The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin

Not every unforgettable book becomes a bestseller, and not every great story gets its moment in the spotlight. Sometimes the books that leave the biggest impression are the ones we discover through a recommendation from a friend, a random browse through a bookstore, or a chance encounter at the library. Those quieter stories often become the ones we can't stop thinking about—or recommending to everyone we know.
