The Navy Midshipmen returned home to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium one week after a disheartening loss to rival Air Force and a three-game losing streak, their longest since 2011.
With star quarterback Keenan Reynolds sitting this one out, the blue and gold racked up 434 yards of offense against the VMI Keydets under the direction of Tago Smith, who ran for 24 yards and one touchdown along with throwing for 82 yards and another score.
The Mids gained control early, taking a 37-7 lead into halftime. Navy is now 3-4 on the season while the VMI Keydets dropped to 1-6 following the blowout.
Navy has next weekend off before taking on the San Jose State Spartans at home on October 25th at 1 p.m. Last year, Reynolds ran for 240 yards and scored an NCAA record seven touchdowns in a thirlling 58-52 triple overtime victory at San Jose State last November.
