Almost Heaven
Children’s Theatre of Annapolis, July 14th, 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.
brAlmost Heaven weaves together the songs of John Denver to create a uniquely theatrical narrative that reflects upon the country during a time of massive change. Many of Denver's songs - including "Rocky Mountain High," "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Annie's Song," "Leaving on a Jet Plane," and more - are rediscovered and reinvented, performed against a backdrop of America in the late '60s and early '70s, a time of social unrest and political protest.
Annie Get Your Gun
St. John’s College, July 14th–July 16th, 7:30 p.m., July 17th, 2 p.m.
brAnnie Oakley is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she’s discovered by Colonel Buffalo Bill, he persuades this novel sharpshooter to join the Wild West show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction, which while good for business, is bad for romance. Butler high-tails it off to join a rival show, his bruised male ego leading the way, but is ultimately against Annie in the final shootout. The rousing, sure-fire finale hits the mark every time in a testament to the power of female ingenuity. The production will be performed by a cast of 47 talented children from all over the region, ages 7-14. Tickets are $15 and are available online or at the door.
A Tomb with a View
July 15th & July 16th, 8 p.m., July 17th, 2 p.m.
brReading of the Will has never been this hilariously sinister . . . or this filled with outrageous, cut-throat family members all vying for the millions left to unlikely heirs. You'll meet the various Tomb Family members, one by one, each one more bizarre than the last. Be prepared to be 'serenaded' by werewolves, 'entertained' by Julius Caesar, and even 'embedded in the garden' by a sweet little old aunt who plants more than just seeds in her flower beds. By the third act there are more corpses than live members left in the cast. All is revealed as the plot twists and turns to its surprising conclusion. Tickets are $22/adults and $17/senior & students.
The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance
July 14th & July 15th, 7:45 p.m. (The Mikado)
