As you prepare your weekend plans, keep in mind several events that will allow you to socialize for a cause, learn life-saving skills, and enjoy rockin’ music.
The Baltimore Orioles and the American Heart Association have teamed up to help local youth become educated on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The partnership also helps enable them to organize the 30th Annual Baltimore Heart Ball, which will take place Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. The event will help benefit cardiovascular disease research as well as educational efforts and helping local organizations such as Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of Maryland.
Theatre Project in Baltimore will hold its 3rd Annual B'more Dance Mixer, also on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. This special event is free and open to the public, includes a complimentary drink ticket and features performances from dance companies The Collective, Common Ground Dance Company, Dance & Bmore, Deep Vision Dance Company, Full Circle Dance Company, Trajectory Dance Project, VTDance and withhart.dance.projects.
Get a taste of New Orleans as Opportunity Builders, Inc. hosts its 16th Annual Mardi Gras at its Millersville facility Saturday from 6-10 p.m. There will be performances from the band Element K and a variety of street performers as well as food catered by The Spice Rack. The event will feature silent and live auctions with vacation getaways, sports memorabilia, airline tickets and a lot more! Individual tickets are $60 and help support OBI, which has given vocational training to adults with developmental disabilities for over 50 years.
Learn life-saving skills from AHA Certified Instructor Nicole Moore at the Maryland City Branch Li ary on Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. during her CPR Workshop for Teens and Adults. Moore will teach when and how to give cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an automated external defi illator (AED) and how to recognize and help a choking victim. No certification cards will be given as this is only an informative session.
As a follow-up to the Anne Arundel County High School Battle of the Bands, Rams Head on Stage will host a Battle of the Bands Post-Party Sunday at 12 p.m. to cele ate some of the members of the local rock competition. Performing will be Brothers Clair, Chasing Verity, The Goons and Priddy Music Academy. This all-ages matinee is just $10.
St. Michaels Community Center will offer a four-week Softball Instructional Clinic at St. Michaels Elementary School gym on Sundays from Fe uary 2-23. This clinic is for players ages 8-14 and the cost of the camp is $50.
