Annapolis played host to the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game Saturday evening and the league’s best players put on quite a show at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Team Ice snuck past Team Fire, 16-15, in overtime after trailing 14-11 entering the fourth quarter.
The hometown Chesapeake Bayhawks had 11 players represented, including Team Ice captain Lyle Thompson, who scored four goals and assisted with the game-winner delivered by Brendan Sunday (Atlanta Blaze).
Team Ice had eight Chesapeake players on its roster: Matt Abbott, Niko Amato, Jesse Bernhardt, Brendan Bomberry, CJ Costabile, Isaiah Davis-Allen, Colin Heacock and Thompson. Nick Manis, Nick Mariano and Steele Stanwick were the three Bayhawks on Time Fire.
Collegiately, the University of Maryland was represented by Amato, Bernhardt, Davis-Allen, Heacock and Manis.
Team Fire’s Dylan Molloy (New York Lizards) led all scorers with six points (five goals, one assist). That performance earned him the All-Star Game MVP and a $10,000 check.
The Bayhawks resume action at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Saturday, August 3 at 7 p.m. against the New York Lizards.
