Winning one championship is difficult. Winning a second straight title is harder. A third? That’s borderline unfathomable. But that’s exactly what Casey Grieves and the Sa es are looking to do to conclude the 2014 lacrosse season.
“The first championship that we won—when the clock ran out—I couldn’t believe it because our school has never really won a B Conference championship,” he says. “Last year, it was that feeling all over again, that you’re in shock but it feels better because you did it again.”
Winning a second straight PNC MIAA B Conference Championship last spring gave Grieves all the confidence he needed heading into his senior season. He knows what it takes to be a champion and can pass that experience and knowledge on to his younger teammates.
Grieves earned a spot on the Capital Gazette’s “All- MIAA B Conference” lacrosse team the last two seasons and committed to play lacrosse at Hobart College in New York.
He plans to major in business at Hobart and hopes to work on Wall Street after he receives his degree. The idea of the energy that comes along with the hustle and bustle of being a New York businessman has appealed to Grieves for a couple years. He’s sought business advice from his father, who he says is his biggest role model outside of sports.
Grieves looks to him for life lessons and received pep talks from him prior to the Sa es’ last two title games.
When he’s not studying or playing sports, Grieves enjoys spending time with his friends at the beach and playing video games. He also swims for the school’s varsity swimming team and has been a member of his school’s Key Club since freshman year, aiding and assisting the community and underprivileged people.
