Spring Event Season is here! An Annapolis tradition, Croquet Match – Johnnies vs. Mids, Annapolis Beer Week, a modern-classic tradition, and Earth Stewardship Days on the Eastern Shore, an inaugural environmental festival and soon-to-be Earth Day Month tradition – are all fun events celebrating Spring!
brThe Johnnies and the Mids vie for the coveted Annapolis Cup during this annual Rite of Spring. The croquet match brings together two starkly different institutions for an event Sports Illustrated says “has no parallel in intercollegiate sports.” Attendees dress “Great-Gatsby”-style while enjoying a lavish lawn party that includes serenades by the St. John’s Freshman Chorus and swing music provided by the Naval Academy’s Trident Bass Band. The match promises superb intercollegiate competition as well as a festive lawn party where spectators don vintage-inspired attire, enjoy lavish picnics, and swing dance to live music. Since the contest began more than three decades ago, the Johnnies have dominated, winning 25 matches out of 32. Who will win the 33rd?
Annapolis Beer Week is April 18th through 25th, a fun week of events supporting local charities. Events include the 3rd Annual Beer Run on Saturday, April 18th, Beer and Bands at Stan & Joe’s West on Sunday, April 19th, the Maryland Chicken Wing & Beer Festival as well as the Humor, Heroes, and Hops event, both on Saturday, April 25th.

Come enjoy beautiful music, Spring weather, Asian-style BBQ, and kid-friendly crafts and fun!

The event draws approximately 2,000 spectators, many of them St. John’s College Alumni who see it as a springtime reunion, Navy families who relish a chance to cheer for their team, and regional residents who enjoy an old-fashioned community event and a visit to historic Annapolis. This year, the Johnnies and the Midshipmen continue their longstanding rivalry on the St. John’s campus front lawn on Saturday, April 18th at 1 p.m. This event is free. Rain date: Sunday, April 19.
