The best eating apples found at Diehl’s are honeycrisp apples, and they sell at $2/lb. Compared to $2.79 at the Amish Market, $2.99 at Giant, and $3.49/regular and $3.99/organic at Whole Foods Diehl’s has the best price around. Diehl’s honeycrisp apples are picked fresh and locally from Peter’s orchard in Adam’s County three times a week.
Diehl’s carries Stayman Winesap apples, which are by far the best cooking apple you can use. They are good for eating too, but are very crunchy and more tart than sweet. Stayman Winesaps hold up very well for pies, crisps, tarts, and more with amazing flavor. They are also harvested locally from Peter’s orchard in Adam’s County three times a week, and are priced at $1.20/lb.
Diehl’s carries a variety of edible winter squashes such as acorn, butternut, buttercup, spaghetti, carnival, turban, delicate, and more at $1/lb. Looking to make pumpkin pies? Diehl’s carries blue Hubbard squash, which is by far the best for making pumpkin pie. (You don’t want to use those decorative pumpkins for cooking, go figure!) Hubbard squash is meaty all the way through rather than being hollow inside.
Plus, Diehl’s has gourds, straw bales, and cornstalks for all your fall decorating needs. And don’t forget about the mums—lots of mums! Diehl’s is open Monday through Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 9-5 until Halloween.
