Summertime and grilling go hand in hand. Sure, there are some of us crazies that brave the cold and grill during the winter months. But it is the warm weather that really demands the flavors of smoky, charcoal-kissed foods. If you’ve never tasted grilled pizza, you are certainly missing out. And if you’ve never grilled your Naan and turned THAT into pizza, then we suggest your run out and taste-test as soon as possible. Naan makes a perfect crust for pizza, light and fluffy but still crisp enough to hold up.
For pizza sauce:
2 Tbsp. oliv oil
1 tsp. minced onion
½ tsp. oregano
¼ tsp. parsley
3 cloves minced garlic
1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
½ tsp. basil
½ tsp. thyme
¼ tsp. salt
3 cloves minced garlic
1 ½ tsp. honey
2 Tbsp. own sugar
Heat oil over medium high. Add crushed tomatoes and stir. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low for 30 to 60 minutes until thickened.
2 pieces of Naan
1 cup pizza sauce
1 cup mozzarella cheese
½ red bell pepper, sliced
½ onion, sliced
Sriracha hot sauce for topping
Heat the grill to medium and spray with non-stick spray. Place the Naan on the grill and cook for about 2 minutes until it begins to char and crisp. Flip and cook for 1 minute on the other side. Remove and place on a tray. Top with sauce, cheese, pepper, onion and Sriracha. Return to the grill and cover. Cook for about 2 minutes until the cheese has melted. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then slice.
Makes 2 pizzas.
