I am always looking for a way to boost the health benefits in my food and I have realized that flaxseed is the way to go. I can add flaxseed to nearly anything to get nearly a serving of what is considered 'one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet'. In the 8th century Babylon, there was a law requiring King Charlemagne's subjects to consume it regularly because he believed so strongly in the benefits of flaxseed and now we have the research to back it up.
- Flaxseed is one of the oldest crops, just one tablespoon is a serving that can give you protein, fiber, and omega-3 acids as well as vitamins and minerals.
- Flaxseed is a rich source of lignans, which can reduce the risk of cancer. They contain up to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods which mainly reduces the risk of breast cancer in women.
- Flaxseed has plenty of fiber and can bulk up any meal to be more filling, leaving you eating less.
- This is a great source of plant-based protein, which can be hard to find. Having this form of protein can help your immune system and will also result in cutting back some of that meat you are eating.
Fun Fact: Consume Flaxseed raw!! Introducing the seeds to heat can instantly destroy any health benefits they contain.
Cooking:
The easiest way to introduce flaxseed to you system is to add it to your breakfast: oatmeal, yogurt, protein shakes ect. They will enhance these meals to make them leaving you more full and ready to start your day.
