Local Red Wine
Detoxing and clean eating are all well and good, but you’ve had a long day and you just need a drink. One glass of red wine is supposed to be good for you anyway, right? This medium-bodied and balanced wine from Black Ankle Winery in Mt. Airy, Maryland is an excellent way to unwind after the daily stresses of life.
Black Ankle Winery was recently named one of America's Hottest Small Brands by Wine Business Monthly. They offer tours every Saturday and Sunday at 1 where artisan cheeses and other snacks are available for purchase. The owners of Black Ankle support the production and consumption of local wines for environmental reasons. Wines cultivated here include syrah, numerous unique blends, chardonnay, viognier, and rosé.
The bouquet of the 2011 Rolling Hills is described as having notes of “cassis, cherry, and leather” with a “crisp medium finish”. This wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Look for it at your local liquor store (it can be found at Bin 201 Wine Sellers) for the price of $32.00. Mills Fine Wine and Spirits offers other great Black Ankle choices. Give it a try with this week’s salmon, potato, and asparagus salad. Cheers!
