Q: What is carpal tunnel syndrome?
A: Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve becomes squeezed at the wrist. The symptoms of carpal tunnel are either a tingling or burning sensation in the palm of one’s hand. The cause of carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by increased pressure on the median nerve and tendons in the carpal tunnel. Dr. Smith utilizes specific testing to identify carpal tunnel syndrome. Statistics reveal women are more prone to carpal tunnel syndrome than men. In addition, carpal tunnel syndrome is especially common in individuals who perform assembly line-type jobs.
