Q: Have there been any new advances in the treatment of sinusitis?
A: I have incorporated Balloon Sinuplasty into the treatment of chronic sinusitis. It allows us to defer extensive surgery on patients who have mild to moderate sinus disease, yet have failed conservative treatment. This is a minimally invasive technique that results in faster healing and less post-operative discomfort than traditional sinus surgery. I oft en pair this with a CAT scan guided navigation system. This can be performed in an office setting under local anesthesia. No longer do sinus procedures require a hospital or surgery center visit. This saves the patient time and money. The use of this new technology has resulted in improved patient comfort and care.
