DC is celebrating one of the most beloved pop culture holidays of the year, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on May 4! Now in its 18th year, Free Comic Book Day gives fans across the country exclusive releases at no cost as a special way to celebrate the joy of comic books. This year, Annapolis fans will have the opportunity to meet #1 New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Kami Garcia (Beautiful Creatures) on May 4 and enjoy a sneak peek at the author’s upcoming TEEN TITANS: RAVEN original graphic novel months ahead of its July release.
Starting at 10 am EDT on May 4 at Third Eye Comics, Garcia will sign copies of the TEEN TITANS: RAVEN excerpt featured in DC’s UNDER THE MOON: A CATWOMAN TALE FCBD SPECIAL EDITION, as well as RAVEN-themed posters, while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to line up early to receive a copy. Wristbands/tickets are not required.
Serving as DC’s Gold Title for FCBD, DC is offering a free chapter from UNDER THE MOON: A CATWOMAN TALE, a new graphic novel from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Myracle (ttyl) and artist Isaac Goodhart. The full version of this original graphic novel from DC Ink, DC’s new young adult reader imprint, will be available to fans in comic book shops on May 1 and everywhere books are sold on May 7. As a special treat, an excerpt from Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo’s upcoming DC Ink graphic novel TEEN TITANS: RAVEN will also be included in this Free Comic Book Day special edition.
Additionally, DC’s second comic book special, written for middle-grade readers, will offer two exclusive free chapters of DEAR JUSTICE LEAGUE, written by The New York Times bestselling author Michael Northrop (TombQuest) with art by Gustavo Duarte (BIZZARO). Highlighting fan-favorite characters Superman and Hawkgirl, these two chapters will give fans an advance look at the DC Zoom graphic novel ahead of the full book’s release on August 6.
Plus, just ahead of Free Comic Book Day, DC will release a special 25-cent original comic, DC’S YEAR OF THE VILLAIN #1, on Wednesday, May 1. Available to download on ReadDC.com and Comixology, or to purchase for $0.25 cents at participating comic book stores, this exclusive 32-page comic will spotlight several of DC’s most infamous Super-Villains and serve as preludes to several major storylines unfolding throughout summer and fall. Celebrated authors Brian Michael Bendis, Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV have penned these stories alongside Eisner Award-winning illustrators Alex Maleev, Jim Cheung and Francis Manapul.
