As we age, changes in the auditory system can have a significant impact on communication, social connection, and overall well-being. This presentation will focus on understanding hearing loss—why it occurs, how it affects daily life, and the important role it plays in healthy aging. In addition, we will explore other common conditions of the ear and balance system, including tinnitus (the perception of ringing or noise in the ears) and dizziness/ vertigo. These conditions can be frustrating and even debilitating, but there are effective ways to manage and reduce their impact. Participants will learn about: the relationship between hearing loss and cognitive health; how untreated hearing difficulties can affect memory, mood, and independence; current strategies and technologies available for managing hearing loss; evidence-based approaches for coping with tinnitus; understanding balance disorders; and practical steps to reduce dizziness and fall risk.
We hope you will join us at the Annapolis Science Café at 49 West, but Zoom is also available. It's best to reserve seats for this event by calling 49 West at 410-626-9796. The event is free but you need to buy something from the restaurant. You don’t need a reservation for Zoom, but you do need the meeting number and passcode. Questions?
