Brooke Landry (MD DNR) will introduce you to one of the Chesapeake Bay's most vital shallow water habitats - underwater grasses. Underwater grasses, also known as bay grasses or submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), are essential to the overall health and functioning of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. They provide habitat for fish and invertebrates, food for waterfowl and other critters, they help stabilize our shorelines, promote good water quality, and fight climate change! We'll discuss some of the most recent research findings for Chesapeake Bay grasses and ways that you can get involved in the effort to protect, conserve, and restore them!
