Progression
This event is part of the 6th annual Annapolis Chamber Music Festival, which seeks to present innovative concerts in fresh and unexpected ways.
As the pandemic ebbs (at least in our part of the world), there is much joy to be found in renewing our ties and resuming cherished ways of life. Yet we are re-entering a changing world, and we ourselves have changed. The music of “Progression”, our final concert, contains pieces that look both forwards and backwards as we attempt to make sense of the present.
Viet Cuong’s “Trains of Thought” moves forward with bright rhythmic intensity. Joan Tower’s Rising for flute and string quartet emerges from a solemn place, blending jittery rhythms with a touching gravitas to lend immediacy to a contemplation of past musical lives. Finally Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings closes the program, an uplifting cri de coeur that shines with urgency and joy. Join us for a program that celebrates not only incredible music, but the very possibility of sharing it together.
