Stillness
This event is part of the 6th annual Annapolis Chamber Music Festival, which seeks to present innovative concerts in fresh and unexpected ways.
Suddenly, everything stops. An endless moment stretches out, longer than we thought possible. The emotions and thoughts that flood to the surface in times of isolation were the inspiration for this program. In this season of relationships strengthened and ended, memories savored and mourned, the desire for connection remains as strong as ever. Only now, there is time and space to listen to one’s own heart.
Each of the pieces on this program begin from a place of stillness and space to explore different emotional realms. Alexandre Tansman’s Suite for Wind Trio brings a unique warmth and depth to the reed trio, where murmuring, antique harmonies give way to flights of fancy. Shinji Eshima’s Bariolage, composed for the San Francisco Ballet, brings the little-used cello and double bass duo on a journey of discovery. And Brahms’s late Clarinet Quintet, a gem among gems, shapes the rustlings of autumn into a bittersweet outpouring.
