Annapolis Science Café at 49 West: “What Happens in the Arctic Doesn't Stay in the Arctic”, by Mr. John Woods, Director, US Navy International Engagement Office.
John Woods will provide a tour of the Arctic Region through the eyes of a Scientist, Naval Officer and Annapolis Resident. His talk is a short lesson in Polar Oceanography and explanation on why 'What Happens in the Arctic doesn't Stay in the Arctic'. He will include a discussion of the impacts of the changing climate on our local area and the changes seen over the past 15 years visiting the Polar Regions.
John Woods is a 2000 graduate of the US Naval Academy and has been working for the Navy in some capacity ever since. He is currently the Director of the US Navy International Engagement Office working in the Pentagon. He also had positions working for NASA and NOAA, all focused on the Polar Regions. Prior to retiring from the US Navy Reserves, John served as a Surface Warfare Officer on the USS Cleveland and as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer.
