Guest Speaker, Tom Glenn, will be presenting on how to create fictional plots and characters that are based on true stories, as well as the nuances and challenges of his personal process.

Sometimes, real life whisks us away into situations that later become a source of inspiration for compelling fiction novels. Tom Glenn has lived through a lot. His critically acclaimed novels and short stories include stories of war, Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI), and caring for dying AIDS patients, all of which are fictional pieces drawn from his own real life experiences. Tom will be speaking about how to create fictional plots and characters that are based on true stories, as well as the nuances and challenges of his personal process.

Tom Glenn has worked as a clandestine intelligence operative (he escaped under fire when Saigon fell), a musician, a linguist (seven languages), a cryptologist, a government executive, a caregiver for the dying, a leadership coach, an actor, and, always, a writer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music, a master’s degree in government, and a doctorate in public administration. Tom is also a reviewer for the Washington Independent Review of Books and the Internet Review of Books where he specializes in works on Vietnam. He now has four novels and 17 short stories in print with two more books due to be published in 2020.

This and all meetings are open to the public and free to MWA members and first-time guests. All others may pay $5.00. Annual dues to MWA are $40.00 and include other benefits on top of monthly attendance. MWA meetings meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
