Opera Lafayette Presents Beethoven's Leonore
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts 2700 F Street NW, District of Columbia 20566
Leonore is Beethoven's first version of the opera that would later become Fidelio and follows Gaveaux and Bouilly's opera of the same name, which Opera Lafayette released on DVD earlier this year. Our largest scale production to date, the story features themes relevant to today, including a heroic woman rescuing her husband who has been wrongfully imprisoned.
Founder and Artistic Director Ryan Brown will conduct this performance featuring the Opera Lafayette Orchestra and Chorus. The cast includes a predominantly French Canadian cast, including soprano Nathalie Paulin in the title role; tenor Jean-Michel Richer as Florestan, soprano Pascale Beaudin as Marcelline, tenor Keven Geddes as Jaquino, and bass-baritone Alexandre Sylvestre as Don Fernando. German bass-baritone Norman Patzke makes his U.S. debut in the role of Don Pizarro, and bass-baritone Stephen Hegedus makes his company debut as Rocco. Oriol Tomas stage directs this production with sets and costumes designed by Laurence Mongeau, and lighting by Rob Silar.
